Theme

Alarm / crisis recognition

We did a general dive into the biological process of the Turritopsis Dhornii (the Immortal jellyfish) and explored how this biological process can inform a deeper and alternative perspective on contemporary crisis and uncertainty. After a brief introduction we started to reflect on the meaning and associations with the word ALARM. Several co-concepts arised like:Alarm as a biological signal (stress/death > transformation) Alarm as a perceptual state (what we recognise, ignore, or mis-interpret) Alarm as a cultural / systemic phenomenon (catastrophe, climate, anxiety)

A few key questions emerged: What triggers an alarm for an organism, a system, and a place? What counts as “data” when we move beyond text? How do we sense something before we can name it?Why Alarm is called Alarm and what other word can we use to define this state?

These questions will guide the first part of the next session.
